How to Start Prepping

It isn’t what you think!

Every time people talk about prepping, they often imagine images of strange people who wear those tinfoil hats while huddling inside a shelter as they way for the mothership to come back. There are also those who think of recluse living in a one-room shack amidst a rural area.
However, neither of these two truly captures the real essence and nature of this so-called prepping.
At its very heart, prepping is all about preparing for the future. Since the future is uncertain, and there is no way you can tell what it will bring, preppers often hope for the best but they also prepare for the worse things that can happen. For a good reason, most preppers feel that the world is now on the verge of some significant changes in life as everyone knows it. This is why they prepare.

Prepping Survival

 Its Three Important Facets
As far as modern people who are involved are concerned, prepping is composed of three main areas, namely getting necessary supplies, learning the requisite skills, and building or forming a community.

Prepping List

Getting the Necessary Supplies
These necessary supplies include food, shelter, guns, water, and an apocalypse plan. Everyone knows that people need these three things for survival. In addition, you need a continual supply of these three. The preppers are aware of this, and they take the necessary steps for preparing themselves in the event that the supply has been disrupted for whatever reason.
We never let a job loss or truckers strike to stop them from eating. This is why they prepare. They make sure they purchase extra food when it is on sale. They also grow and tend to their own garden and preserve it. They purchase in bulk, storing them for the rainy days.
Meanwhile, adherents also don’t like debts. They see to it that all their mortgages are paid off. They also live within their means, while working hard at their jobs. They don’t fear physical labor in order to give all the needs and wants of their families. Preppers also don’t want a job loss to turn into the loss of a car or home.

Prepping For Beginners

Learning the Requisite Skills
The idea of prepping could start with supply and food storage yet it doesn’t just end there. On a regular basis, preppers learn and practice brand new skills. They also learn to cook and how to perform emergency first aid. They even learn how to hunt using various weapons, and build some debris huts as well as other forms of shelters.
From canning and sewing to knot tying and fire-starting, preppers get to learn essential and possible life-saving skills way before they might need them. These are all part of being prepared.

Form a SHTF Preparedness Community

The preppers know that there is always value in knowing other like-minded people. People can then learn from one another. They can help one another. They can share their knowledge and boost and encourage one another. Prepping is not just a zero-sum game. They expand the pie by helping others. In addition to that, it is a bit impossible for preppers to acquire all the skills and supplies they might need. There isn’t enough money or time to prepare to the extent. Therefore, preppers should get to know other people in their local community with the same passions yet varied skill sets.
If you are having some car troubles, it is good to know a mechanic. If you have injured yourself, having an EMT friend can be of great help. Once the food supply is disrupted for a particular period of time, it is good to know some farmers.
Just remember that people helping people is a part of being ready.

Where to Begin? for shtfpreparedness

This is absolutely a journey and as an old adage goes, each journey starts with a single step. Knowing the need as well as the prudence of acknowledging and knowing that you’re woefully underprepared is a great first step. Then, create a plan. Know where you are with your skills, community, and supplies. After that, know where you would like to be and create a plan to close the gap. If there are only three days worth of foods in your pantry and you like six months worth, prioritize this and plan.

Helpful Prepping Tips You Should Know

Practice Water Preparedness
If you don’t purchase a single canned good or pasta for long-term food storage, consider storing water. The supply of drinking water in a month is about $150, yet the prices may depend on the area where you are at the time things go down. It is recommended to have refillable five-gallon water jugs and fill some empty containers with tap water for flushing, hygiene, and cleaning purposes. It’s a small investment to make for the well-being and security of your family in case of an emergency. If you have some stored water, consider adding secondary water sources, filtration devices, and water harvesting for your preparedness endeavors.

Prepping Food

Create a Pantry
Tons of people in the community want to keep a year supply of foods on hand. If you are just starting, this could be overwhelming. Consider starting out smaller than that and concentrate first on extra 2 weeks then on a monthly supply. You may always build from that. Just remember that when creating your emergency food supply that you could not have electricity during disasters. In this case, you would want to have foods that do not need lengthy cooking water. Search for foods that only need water to cook or some foods that should not be cooked and can be consumed even after opening it.

Prepping to Survive

Plan Ahead for Your Home Defense
It is an unfortunate fact that disaster situations bring out the worst in a lot of people. Due to this, even though you stay safely in your home, you might be called upon to defend your family or property. Several people loot for the sheer fun of it while others consider the chaos as a free pass to commit crimes and some are desperate and frightened. You may have a ten year supply of medicine, water, and food, yet if you cannot defend this, you do not own it. For you to win a fight successfully, you should avoid getting into the fight at the first place.
There’s nothing wrong with getting your act together in advance. Just do it in a correct manner and always be mindful of the things you should prioritize first.
